A message regarding Covid-19:
Greetings Camp Nuhop Families,
As the school year is wrapping up and the summer season begins, we at Nuhop are thinking about our Camp Nuhop family more than ever. We hope that this message finds you and your families staying healthy and enjoying some time outdoors. As promised in our letter last month, we wanted to keep you informed about the decisions that are being made at Nuhop.
Over the past three months, we have closely monitored the development of COVID-19 and the impact that it has on our ability to safely operate programs at Camp Nuhop. During this time, we have sought out resources to guide our decision making from the American Camp Association, local and state officials, and our Nuhop staff and families. New guidelines and recommendations from these organizations have been released in recent weeks and outline the extensive steps that need to be taken to safely operate this summer.
When reflecting on all of the big and small moments that go into making camp magical and meaningful for our campers, families, and staff, we believe that social connections are a large part of this magic. With the need for continued social distancing at this time, we need to find new ways to make these connections. We believe that Nuhop's dedication to providing a safe environment trumps everything else. With the number of unknowns surrounding COVID-19, we do not believe that we can open this summer and guarantee a safe environment for all. With this in mind, Camp Nuhop has made the decision to cancel all in-person programs for the summer of 2020.
As mentioned in previous communications, you can choose to receive a full refund of all current funds deposited (minus the credit card processing fees) for the session you were enrolled in, you can save those funds for a future Nuhop program, or you can choose to donate those funds to Camp Nuhop as a tax-deductible donation. For all of you that are in this position, we will be reaching out soon to find a solution that works best for you. Whatever you choose, please know that we are looking forward to seeing you as soon as we are able to safely meet again at Camp Nuhop.
Please know that this decision required a great amount of heartfelt reflection, consideration, and discussion with many members of our Nuhop team. While we are heartbroken to not greet you here at camp this summer, we are hopeful to connect with your camper in other ways. Despite the challenges of this time, there are still so many wonderful ways to have a memorable and safe summer. We challenge you to connect more with those in your household, explore the outdoors around you, and find ways to spread the Nuhop magic to your community.
We at Nuhop are looking forward to launching Camp Nuhop-at-Home this summer! Each week, campers will receive a packet of activities and supplies. Each weekday morning we will hold a tribe meeting via video chat to talk about that day’s activity and to generally check in with our campers. They will then have a few hours to work on the activity, as well as watch videos from their counselors with songs, skits, stories, and helpful hints for the activity. We will reconvene in another tribe meeting in the afternoon to talk about how things went and do an activity together! Camp Nuhop-at-Home sessions are as follows:
Session 1: June 29 - July 3, 2020
Session 2: July 6 - July 10, 2020
Session 3: July 13 - July 17, 2020
Session 4: July 20 - July 24, 2020
Session 5: July 27 - July 31, 2020
Session 6: August 3 - August 7, 2020
Families will also be given three options regarding payments already made:
- Families may choose to apply their balance to virtual or future camp programs,
- Receive a full refund minus the non-refundable credit card fee, or
- Contribute the balance as a tax-exempt donation to camp.
As we all work through this decision in our own way, please know that we are still in this together as one Nuhop community. If your children would benefit from hearing this message from us, please monitor our social media accounts for a message from our Nuhop family to yours. We miss all of you and are excited about the times ahead when we will be able to connect more. Remember that Nuhop’s magic is not about the place, but about the people it brings together. As we are beginning to create camp away from our physical campus, please feel free to reach out to us at any time with questions, concerns, or warm fuzzy stories. We look forward to hearing from all of you soon and wish you a summer filled with adventure!
